Change the default data type in Access 2010 tables

Microsoft Access uses data types to prevent entering wrong or invalid data to the database tables. By default, Access uses the Text data type for your new fields. You can change the data type for every new field in the table Design View every time you create a new field. In Microsoft Access 2010, if you frequently use a different data type other than Text, you can set this data type as a default data type for new fields. To do that, navigate to the program options from the backstage, then in the “Object Designer” tab of the Options window, set the default field type to the data type that meets your needs, like shown here:
